About Me
Sharon Forbes
MSW, RSW, RCC, EMDR
Over 25 years working experience
As a community based social worker for the past many years, I have been afforded the opportunity to walk along-side many people who have invited me into their personal story of struggle. It is a precious place of vulnerability when people enter into a counselling relationship. I am honoured to be chosen as a person who you are willing to work through some of your personal barriers with.
I have a long history of working in the not-for-profit sector and have been the co-founder of supportive housing programs and program development and implementation. I am also a contractor with several local non-profit agencies as their on-site clinical counsellor and to provide staff training and critical incident debriefing as needed.
People who I have supported include individuals who have histories of complex trauma, PTSD, histories of addiction, incarceration, complex grief and loss and who are looking at new ways of working toward their preferred life.
My theoretical framework includes collaborative, strength based, individualized treatment plans, that are goal oriented. My approaches to counselling include narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, EMDR and mindfulness practices.
As a single parent I have been blessed with four children who are now adults and my life is filled with joy and the love of my kids and four grandkids. My long time friends have described me as loyal, honest, hard working and reliable and I bring my commitment to connection into my practice as well.
I am a Registered Social Worker and a Registered Clinical Counsellor in good-standing and I am accountable to the Code of Conduct and Ethics committee. I am also committed to ongoing education, training and capacity building.
